BUF Volleyball closes out the Regular Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bay Minnette, AL – On Tuesday, October 28 the Lady Eagles began the final week of the season in Alabama. In set-1 vs Coastal Alabama the Lady Eagles went up 8-5 but then they were tied at 9, 12, 13, 15, and 18. After it was 18-18 Coastal ended the set on a 7-0 run to win 25-18. In set-2 BUF never led. Coastal started out up 7-0, counting the last set they won 14 points in a row, and they took set-2 by a score of 25-16. In set-3 the match returned to being close. The Eagles played a 5-set match against Coastal in Graceville that was very competitive. In set-3 of this match the teams were tied 9 different times, at 7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14, and 17. With the Eagles up 19-18 Isabela Acevedo delivered a kill that Coastal could not return, giving her. Then with BUF ahead 21-20 Deliani Cruz ended a rally with a kill CA was unable to block. For what would be the final point of the set Nevaeh Peery set the ball to Szonja Csabai who would finish off the set with a big kill that went untouched to give the Eagles a 25-22 win. The Lady Eagles won the first 6 points and proceeded to go up by 9 points at 12-3. Being down 0-2 in a match but extending it to 5-sets is not an easy thing to do and the Eagles had not been able to do that yet this season. After leading 12-3 Coastal went on at 10-1 run to tie it at 13 and were soon up 20-16 making it a 17-4 run but BUF pushed back tying it at 21 and 22. In the end the Eagles could not fully recover and Coastal Alabama won 25-22, finishing off the win 3 sets to 1. For the Lady Eagles 3 players had double digit kills: Cruz (11) Acevedo (11) and Csabai with both a team high and game high (14) Peery ended with 36 assists.

Augusta, GA – Saturday morning November 1st the Lady Eagles played in a Tri-Match in Georgia. The first of these games was a re-match against Paine College, who they played during a Tri Match in Jacksonville. In the 1st set the Eagles never trailed and built up a 15-6 lead, Paine did their best to comeback, cutting the deficit to 2-points at 18-16. BUF held on to win 25-21 and go up 1-set to 0. In set-2 the Lady Eagles again did not trail, as they took an early 8-4 advantage, before going on a 10-4 run making it 18-8 and ultimately winning this set 25-11. The Eagles were facing a winless team, who had not even won a set, playing in their final week of matches for the season. They did not want to again be swept. In the 3rd set Paine had it tied at 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 before going up 12-9. The Eagles cut the deficit back down to 1 point on 2 separate occasions, but Paine College was able to win the set 25-20. In set-4 Paine took a 4-point led at 10-6 but the Eagles fought back to tie it at 12, and then later it was tied at 17. In the end BUF won 25-21 to take the match 3-sets to 1. In the match Acevedo had 19 kills, both a team high and game high, this would put her in a tie for 7th on the NCCAA Division II season long leaderboard in 4-set matches. Hailey Moody ended with a team and match high kill percentage of .375.
In the 2nd game BUF played against Clinton College, an NCCAA Division I school out of South Carolina. BUF took an early 5-4 advantage in set-1 but soon they were down 8-18, as Clinton went on a 14-3 run. In the end they took the set by a score of 25-11. In set 2 BUF again lead early at 6-4 and near the middle of the match the teams were tied at 14 but BUF was unable to hold on as they lost 20-25. For the 3rd set in a row the Eagles went up early, this time by 3 at 8-5 and 12-9 but Clinton ended on a 16-3 run to take the set 25-15 and swept the 3 sets. That would be all for the Eagles regular season, next the regional tournament in Pensacola.
