Thais Franca brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to developing student-athletes to her role as the Head Women's Volleyball Coach at Baptist University of Florida (BUF). Named as the program's first head coach, Franca's background spans both the United States and international volleyball scenes, encompassing extensive coaching and playing experience.
Prior to joining BUF, Franca served as the Head Women's Volleyball Coach at the University of Mary from 2014 to 2017. Her coaching journey also includes a stint at St. Andrews Presbyterian College, alongside significant experience leading college camps and club teams both in the United States and her native Brazil.
Franca's passion for BUF is evident in her own words: "I am so very thankful and beyond excited to start a volleyball program at BUF. The mission and identity of the Baptist University of Florida is very near and dear to my heart. It's a blessing to be part of the BUF family, and I'm looking forward to start a successful program."
Athletic Director Nathaniel Hughes expressed his confidence in Franca, stating, "It was clear from the first time we talked that Thais Franca was the perfect person to lead the women's volleyball program at BUF. Her heart for the Lord and for others is evident. Her wealth of knowledge and experience, coupled with her commitment to disciple and develop her athletes make me confident that she will be truly successful as the leader of our program." This aligns perfectly with the BUF Athletics mission to disciple student-athletes for the advancement of the Kingdom, develop their skills and character, and display the University's spirit of excellence.
As a player, Franca competed at the collegiate level for Cal University of Pennsylvania, Florida Gulf Coast University, and Hutchinson Community College, providing her with a firsthand understanding of the dedication and effort required to succeed.
In addition to her head coaching duties, Franca also serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Women's Athletics and Senior Woman's Leader at BUF, demonstrating her broad impact and leadership within the department.
With her strong faith, extensive experience, and dedication to holistic athlete development, Thais Franca is poised to build a successful and impactful women's volleyball program at Baptist University of Florida.
