BUF Men’s Basketball plays in season opening game at PCC

Box Score Pensacola, Fl – Tuesday night in Pensacola was the Baptist University of Florida's 1st basketball game is school history. The start of the game was delayed due to the volleyball game before going to 5-sets and tip off was close to 8pm CST. BUF scored the first points of the game making it 2-0, but PCC then went on an 18-2 run making the score 4-18. The BUF Eagles were having to use a 4-guard lineup being without some key players, but they remained competitive. They got back to within an 8-point margins at 16-24 and cut the lead to 5 points at 32-37 after a steal and fast break finishing layup by Omari Henry. Solomon Sutton, who went to high school in Pensacola, had an impressive night back in his home city. He was asked to play up a position and be our center, and he responded with an impressive game. Sutton was a force on the glass. He had 13 rebounds in the game, which was the high for either team, or also 2 blocks, along with 8 points. PCC responded to the BUF run and lead by 14 (50-36) going into halftime.
 
While in the 2nd half BUF was able to not let PCC pull away. They were unable to cut the lead back down to single digits. The BUF Eagles just did not shoot well as a team, finishing with a team field goal percentage of 34% and a 3-point percentage of 25%, but they never gave up and their determination was noticeable. Oliver Pratt played the most minutes off the bench for the team and finished with 12 points including going 4-4 at the free throw line. He brought some needed energy and a had the highest 3-point percentage on the team going 2-4 from deep (50%). Bryan Jackson was another who provided energy off the bench and toughness to keep BUF in this game. In the end PCC took their biggest lead of the night going up 90-73 and winning the game but after it was 4-18 the score was 69-72. Number 3 on their team had 36 points in the game and created problems for BUF, especially when it came to defending him. 
Henry tied for a team high 3 steals on the night and was 100% from the free throw line shooting 6-6 as part of an 18-point offensive performance. Thomas Curlee also had 18 points along with 9 rebounds (1 away from a double double) and 2 blocks.
