Softball Competes at the highest level in inaugural season

Several members of the BUF Softball team received postseason recognition amongst some outstanding performances.

Leading the way, Olivia Spooner was selected to 1st Team All Region after an outstanding junior season. The Marianna native led the team in batting average at .362 and on-base percentage at .413. Spooner also finished 1st on the team in hits with 46, 1st in extra base hits with 16, and 1st in runs scored with 34 while starting and playing every game regular season and post season. Batting leadoff and playing center field, Spooner consistently set the tone for BUF on offensive and on defensive. Spooner previously played at Chipola with Harley Daniels.

During BUF's 12-5 win over Paine College on March 14, Murray went 5-5 with 4 RBI's and 3 runs scored. She also recorded a stretch of 11 consecutive at-bats with a hit. Jamie Jackson was selected to 2nd Team All Region after one of the most consistent offensive seasons on the roster. The junior from Enterprise batted .337 during the regular season, finishing 2nd on the team in batting average and hits with 33. She also tied for 4th in extra base hits and RBIs. Jackson put together a 13-game hit streak during the regular season, the longest by any BUF player. After considering not playing softball again following her sophomore year of junior college, Jackson stepped into a new role for BUF. Having never served as a utility player, she spent the season either pitching or playing 2nd base while batting 3rd in the lineup.

Coach Albury excelled at building a winning culture, leading her team to 9 regional wins this season and advanced all the way to the regional finals after winning 3 consecutive games in the tournament. BUF also upset the number 1 seed in the region, a team that finished the season ranked number 2 nationally and enters the Softball World Series as the number 1 seed. BUF pushed the nationally ranked opponent to 9 innings twice during the regional tournament. Coach Albury propelled the lady eagles to have competitive passion, team comradery, and an overcoming spirit in a challenging inaugural season troubled by injuries and obstacles to solidify themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the south region.
