The winner of Student Athlete of the Month is Harley Daniels. A tenacious pitcher who led the Lady Eagles this season. Daniels pitched over 132 innings, winning 6 games and striking out 67 batters.
The rising senior had several impactful performances in the regional tournament. Earning complete-game victories in her first two starts, including an upset win over the number 1 seed in the South Region, the CIU Rams, who ended the regular season ranked 2nd in the nation. At the plate, she batted .312 for the tournament and finished 4th on the team in hits and RBIs for the week. For the season, she finished tied for 4th in hits and 5th in RBI's.
This past school year was significant for Daniels on the diamond but off it as well. On August 22, she made a life-changing decision that set her on a path to finding Christ. Over winter break, Daniels had been wrestling with questions related to having a quiet time and studying the Bible and she fell under conviction hearing a message in Chapel from Brian Stowe, senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Plant City as Stowe preached in chapel about those topics. Daniels accepted Christ, and on the 22nd she was baptized. On the softball field she wears number 22, as her number is linked to these two important events.Â
BUF brought a sense of community that she needed, after living in Missouri for a year and feeling out of place. The team camaraderie of the softball program uplifted Daniels. One example, is one night in Jacksonville during the regional tournament Daniels and her teammates rented scooters in the city and rode around, this was one of her most enjoyable experiences shared with her team throughout the year.
