BUF wins at Trinity College of Florida while playing 2 games in 3 days

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Trinity, FL- Thursday morning the BUF basketball team left Graceville to play later that night and Saturday morning. First up was Trinity College of Florida. This game was delayed over an hour. To begin the teams were scoreless through 2 minutes of play, but Jo'el King got the scoring started as he scored off a pass from CJ McKinley in the lane. King was in for a big half and overall game of scoring and rebounding. He would next hit a 3 pointer again assisted by McKinley to go up 5 points 2 and a half minutes into the game. McKinley would again assist on the 3rd basket of the game which was a 3 from Jordan Issac. McKinley assisted on the first 4 Eagle baskets of the game as he hit King for another 3-point shot to make the score 13-5. The Eagles started fast, which was a point of emphasis for Coach Hughes and the team. With 8:22 left in the half TCF scored to make it 29-23, from that point the Eagles would go on to end the half on a 31-4 run. This began with Joshua Good picking off a pass and driving to the basket for the layup, in the process drawing a foul. He made the free throw to complete the 3-point play. King grabbed a rebound and put it back it to make it 38-23 and a 9-0 Eagles run. TCF called timeout to try and stop the run, however, this proved unsuccessful in preventing the onslaught. Out of timeout Omari Henry recovered a loose ball and handed off to Jordan Issac for the driving layup. Thomas Curlee grabbed a rebound and went the length of the floor finishing at the rim to make it 42-23. Curlee then got a rebound on the next possession and drove the floor to fake like he was doing the same thing as before, but this time he passed to Valentin Lara who was behind the 3-point line and he would knock down a 3 to make it 45-23, a 17-0 BUF run. It did not end there as King stole a pass on the following possession and finished with a fast break layup of his own, 19 unanswered points by the Eagles. Isaac hit 2 back-to-back layups to put the team up 32 at 55-23 and extend the unanswered run by BUF to 26-0. With a minute and change left in the half, Henry got the ball on the left side behind the 3-point line, went behind the back to move past one defender, then quickly crossed the next and went up to score on a 3rd different TCF defender, who fouled him in the process. Henry then with 33 seconds left put moves on another defender and finished through contact going to the line and hitting the free throw. BUF ended the 1sthalf with a 33-point lead, and a score of 60-27. In the 2nd half TCF would close the gap to 21-points but the Eagles would not allow the game to get any closer than that. With nearly 11 minutes left as TCF was trying to make their push, Oliver Pratt got the ball near the 3-point line on the side, he pumped and spun passing the ball to a cutting Curlee who went right to the rim and threw it down with 2 hands. A few plays later Curlee would hit a layup putting the margin at 25. Omari Henry would drive and get a running layup to go putting the Eagles up 27 and effectively shut the door on any comeback. For the next basket of the game, Henry would get a steal and drive the lane to finish at the basket. King would hit the next 2 shots by the Eagles. Isaac would pass it to David Pina in the paint posting up his defender, Pina spun and laid it in to put the Eagles up 35 and give them their biggest lead of the night with close to 3 minutes left. To eclipse the 100-point mark, Pina would grab a rebound and run the floor, finishing with an emphatic dunk over a defender. The Eagles won this game 101-68. King finished the game with a team high 26 points and he added 17 rebounds, the most of any Eagle in a game yet this season, which is currently tied for 2nd on the NCCAA Division II Game Highs leaderboard. Henry finished with 20 points, Isaac had 17 points and 6 rebounds, Pina had 10 points and 8 rebounds, and Curlee had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Babson Park, Fl – Saturday at 11am CST, BUF faced off in a rematch versus Webber International University. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead, with a King 3-point shot assisted by Henry and then with a McKinley 3 assisted by King. A 6-2 advantage for BUF to begin the game. Webber would respond with a 6-0 run and not trail the rest of the contest. The Eagles kept it close despite not regaining the lead. Down 7 points at 10-17 Coach Hughes would call a timeout. During the proceeding stretch Henry would take the ball up, get a switch after a screen from King and drive the lane getting a layup to go and cut into the lead. Then on the following possession Henry would pick off a pass for a steal and score again on a fast break layup cutting it to a 4-point deficit. Isaac would later get a steal and go on fast freak himself cutting the deficit to 2 points, forcing WIU to call a timeout. Down 23-26 Isaac would grab a rebound and kick it to McKinley who would go the length of the floor and finish at the basket making the layup as he was fouled. He would make the free throw to tie the game at 26-26. The Eagles were fighting to turn momentum. At 28-29 BUF got a steal a run out to potentially take the lead but was unable to convert. Then they would have another chance to take the lead with free throws down 1 point but missed them both. At halftime the Eagles trailed by 7 points with a score of 35-42. In the last period down 48-55 Henry grabbed a defensive rebound and went the length of floor to finish making it a 5-point game at 50-55.  A few possessions later Isaac would throw up a pass to Pina who was able to convert and make it 52-57. Webber however would respond with a 9-1 run to go up 15 in what would be the biggest lead of the game. The Eagles remained competitive till the end but on this day, they would lose by 7 points, 72-79. Both King and McKinley finished with 15 points. Henry had 12 and Isaac had 11, to round out those in double figures.
