Augusta, GA - On Thursday night, January 29, the BUF Eagles faced off against the Paine Lions. The Lions jumped out to a quick lead as the Eagles struggled with missed shots and turnovers. Trailing 0–8, Coach Hughes called a timeout with 17:22 on the clock to make substitutions and try to spark his team.
The Eagles continued to struggle, falling behind 0–11 before
Jordan Isaac finally got them on the board. Paine extended the lead to 21–5 with 13:49 remaining, putting the Eagles in a 16-point hole.
Facing a 19-point deficit, BUF responded with a strong push. The Eagles went on a 6–0 run, sparked by four points from Isaac and two from
Omari Henry. After a Paine basket,
Solomon Sutton scored, followed by another bucket from Henry and a layup from
KJ Johnson. That sequence capped a 12–2 run, cutting the deficit to 37–28 with 5:05 left in the half. Paine called a timeout, but BUF kept the momentum. Out of the break, Johnson came up with a steal, was fouled, and knocked down both free throws to trim the deficit to 7-points, an impressive turnaround after trailing 0-11 and 5-21 earlier.
The remainder of the half they traded baskets. Paine would score, and Isaac or Henry would answer, as both Eagles finished the half with 15 points each. Paine held a 50–41 lead at the break.
The Eagles' shooting struggles continued in the second half, making a comeback difficult. BUF finished the game shooting 17-for-44 from the field, including 2-for-14 from 3-point range, and 57% from the free-throw line. Henry connected on one of those 3's early in the half, followed by a jumper from Johnson to cut the lead to 13 with 15:30 remaining. However, Paine quickly regained control, stretching the lead back to 19 by the 13:38 mark and to 24 points with 9:14 left.
Jordan Isaac led the Eagles offensively with an impressive 31-point performance, going 10-for-13 from the free-throw line.
Omari Henry added 20 points, while
KJ Johnson finished with 16. Despite the strong individual efforts, the Eagles fell to the Lions by a final score of 107–81.
