Eagles blow out PCC at home

Box Score

Graceville, Fl – Saturday, February 7, was a White Out in Graceville, and the Eagles matched the atmosphere with intensity from the opening tip. The last time these two conference rivals met, PCC won by 17, but tonight BUF flipped the script in convincing fashion.

Coach Hughes stuck with the same starting lineup he has used the past few games: Solomon Sutton, Jordan Isaac, KJ Johnson, Joshua Good, and Omari Henry. PCC won the opening tip and knocked down a three-pointer to take a quick 3–0 lead, but from that moment on it was all BUF. The Eagles responded with a dominant 25–2 run and never looked back.

The run began with a Johnson jumper assisted by Henry. On the next possession, Good played strong defense to contest a shot, Henry grabbed the rebound, kicked it ahead to Isaac, who found Good streaking back down the floor for a layup. Moments later, Good returned the favor, assisting Isaac on a three to give BUF a 7-3 lead, and the Eagles were off and running.

A few plays later, Isaac swatted away a PCC layup attempt with 16:45 on the clock, igniting the crowd. Johnson then assisted a cutting Isaac for a layup to push the lead to 8. Henry deflected a pass that Johnson stole, and Johnson passed it to Henry for a runner, putting BUF up 10. Isaac followed by kicking the ball to Johnson for a 3, extending the lead to 15 and forcing PCC to use a timeout - but the run wasn't finished.

Out of the timeout, Isaac drew a charge and then assisted Johnson again, making it 23–5 with 6 and a half minutes into the game. Isaac added an offensive rebound and putback to push the lead to 20. With the score at 25-6, Oliver Pratt drilled a three off a Henry assist, as BUF continued to dictate the pace on both ends of the floor.

Up by 20, Valentine Lara checked into the game and knocked down a three on his first shot attempt, restoring a 22-point lead at 33-11 with 10:07 left. PCC entered the game averaging 81.6 points per game but had been held to just 11 points. Isaac assisted Henry for another 3 to stretch the lead to 25 as the ball movement continued to impress.

With 8:50 left, Isaac directed traffic at the top of the key, called for a Hubbert-Bonner screen, and finished with a crafty one-handed floater in the lane. Lara hit his second three, off a pass from Pratt, to make it 41-19 with 8:10 left. Good drew a charge at the 6:43 mark, igniting a loud reaction from the White Out crowd as the Eagles continued their best home performance of the season.

Henry knocked down a pair of free throws with 1:33 remaining to push BUF past the 50-point mark, and the Eagles headed into halftime with a commanding 52-32 lead.

Isaac finished the first half with 18 points and 8 rebounds and 4 assists, making his presence felt after missing the first meeting against PCC. BUF totaled 14 assists in the half, showcasing the kind of ball movement that puts a smile on Coach Hughes' face.

BUF opened the second half with a 4-0 run as Sutton scored on a layup assisted by Good, followed by a Henry basket assisted by Isaac. PCC briefly cut the lead to 17 with 14:38 remaining, but that would be as close as PCC would get. Johnson answered with a driving layup and then assisted Henry on a three to restore a 22-point cushion.

Pratt knocked down a three off an Isaac assist with 11:50 left to extend the lead to 27, then added a jumper to make it 79–50. Johnson buried a three to push the margin to 30, and the lead ballooned to 39 after a Johnson triple and a Pratt layup, making it 91–52 with 7:20 remaining.

At that point, PCC subbed out its starters, with BUF following suit by emptying the bench. The Eagles closed out a resounding home victory, winning 99-65.

Jordan Isaac led the way with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists, while KJ Johnson followed with 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists of his own. Henry finished with 16 points, and Good with 10. Pratt added 13 off the bench on 5-6 shooting, including going 2-2 from 3 and Lara chipped in 9 points, going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. As a team, the Eagles recorded 30 assists and held their opponent to just 25-72 shooting, 35% from the field.
