BUF wins Regional Series in Jacksonville

Jacksonville, Fl - BUF traveled to play a series against a team in the south region and fellow Eagles, Trinity College of Jacksonville. Friday, February 13, they were playing a double header, and on Saturday just one game.

Game 1
Mark Pasterella was the starting pitcher for BUF. In the 1st inning both teams were scoreless. To lead off the 2nd, Bryan Calderon hit a long fly ball to right field for a home run! His 2nd of the young season, and BUF was ahead 1-0. With 2 outs, Quincy McFadden singled, followed by a single from Quinten Renfroe, however, the BUF Eagles left 2 on base so the score remained 1-0. TCJ led off the inning with their 2nd hit of the game, but Pasterella would go the next 4 innings without giving up a hit.
Ivan Membreno singled in the 3rd, and Adam Geiger singled in the 4th, but BUF would not get another runner in scoring position until the 6th inning. Junior Paulino led off with a single up the middle, followed by a Membreno single to right, advancing Paulino to 2nd. However, they hit into a double play, and that would be all for BUF Eagles hits.
In the 7th, Pasterella struck out the first batter, then allowed his first hit since the 2nd inning. He struck out the next batter, and for the final out, a TCJ batter hit a grounder toward 1st base. Fielded by Renfroe, Pasterella ran over to cover the bag and was tossed the ball to record the final out and complete the complete game shutout. He went 7 innings, 0 earned runs, 7 strikeouts, and just 3 hits allowed.

Game 2
In this game the bats came alive for each team. Xavier Taylor led off the game for BUF and hit a liner to left field that he stretched into a double. Torin Clark-Hussey batted 2nd and reached on an error that moved Taylor to 3rd, and then Clark-Hussey stole 2nd base. Next up was Membreno, and he was walked, loading the bases with no outs. Calderon was 4th to bat, and he hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Taylor. Clark-Hussey went to 3rd. Next up was Gieger, who brought in Clark-Hussey. BUF was up 2-0 after the top of the 1st.
In the bottom of the 1st, TCJ scored to make it 2-1, and then in the 2nd they went ahead 4-2. Clark-Hussey doubled in the 3rd, but the runner was left stranded. In the 4th inning, Gieger led off with a home run, and the BUF Eagles were within 1 (3-4) and had now homered in both games of the double header. Cale Barnes hit a single, but BUF was unable to score again in the inning.
In the bottom of the 4th, TCJ hit a solo home run and scored again after that, taking a 2-run lead (6-4). The 5th inning was scoreless. In the 6th, Calderon was the first batter and was walked, as were Geiger and Ashton Bailey to load the bases. Andrew Golden came in as a courtesy runner. Eli Albury was up with the bases loaded and was also walked, making 4 base runners let on via walk in a row. Tucker Nix hit a single that scored Geiger, and it was now 5-6. Golden scored on a passed ball to tie the game, and then Membreno was hit by a pitch with the bases still loaded, followed by a Calderon hit and RBI that scored Nix, making it 8-6 BUF, a 5 run top of the 6th inning for BUF.
In the top of the 7th, Golden was walked, and Albury hit a liner to left for a double and RBI as Golden scored to make it 9-6 BUF. In the bottom of the 7th, needing 3 runs to force extra innings, TCJ did just that. The score was 9-9 as the teams played on.
In the top of the 8th, Membreno hit a single. He then stole 2nd and 3rd base and scored on a groundball, making it 10-9. Now BUF was 3 outs away from a win. Hayden Wright, who was pitching, had the opportunity to win it for BUF in extras. Wright struck out the 1st batter and was 2 outs away; struck out the 2nd batter and was 1 out away; and struck out the last batter. Three up, three down. A victory, and the BUF Eagles swept the day!

Game 3
Evan Wallace batted leadoff and hit a double on a hard-hit ground ball to left. Wallace advanced to 3rd via a groundball and then scored on a sacrifice fly from Membreno. BUF took a 1-0 lead early, but TCJ would score 12 unanswered, and this day was not going like Friday.
In the 7th, Calderon and Geiger each walked, as did Taivyn Anderson, to load the bases. Connor Ward drove in Golden, but the comeback was not meant to be. BUF fell by a score of 2-12.
For the series, Bryan Calderon went 3-8 with 3 RBIs, 3 runs, and 1 HR. He scored a run in all 3 games.
