Lady Eagles finish the week by sweeping a double header between NCCAA teams in Jacksonville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Hattiesburg, MS – The Eagles began the week with playing again William Carrey in Mississippi on Tuesday night. The Crusaders head coach is Ronda Shirley who was Thais Franca's coach at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas and a member of the Hall of Fame at the school, soon to be a fellow member when Franca is inducted in January. A sweet reunion for the two who had not seen each other in 10 years. This matchup hopefully begins a relationship between the two schools who will play in Graceville next season. Before her time in Mississippi Shirley was the coach at USC Upstate, a division I program, and prior to that she coached at Navarro College. She holds some impressive records and awards having had great success in her coaching career.
The rise in competition was a challenge for the Eagles as they only held just 1 lead the entire 3 sets and William Carey won each by double digits. Games like this bring important growth for the Eagles as they build a program. In the future BUF hopes to compete with this school.

Jacksonville, Fl – On Friday BUF played a double header at Trinity College of Florida. The first game was played against the host school TCJ and the second played against Paine College, a Division I NCCAA school out of Augusta, Georgia. In set-1 vs TCJ the Eagles struggled against an inspired Trinity College of Jacksonville team who has only 1 win this season recognized by the NCCAA for on the court play and overall, they only have won 5 sets on the season. The set was tied 12 different times, and the largest lead was 2. BUF was down 23-24 late after a myriad of errors.  In the end though BUF won 3 consecutive points to take the set 26-24 but the slow start for BUF is not how the team needed to execute.  In set-2 BUF jumped out to a 3-0 but then allowed a 7-0 run by TCJ going down 3-7. Coach Thais Franca called a timeout to speak to her team. After this BUF went on a 7-0 run of their own making it 10-7. The Lady Eagles were able to push the lead out to 5 and took set 2 25-20, going up 2 sets to 0. The slow starts continued for BUF in set 3 as TCJ went up 6-2 to start the set. BUF got it back tied at 8 a piece and then Szonja Csabai had a run of 5 consecutive aces. She had 6 in the match tying her for 4th on the NCCAA Division II individual game leaderboard for the season. The BUF Eagles were able to get an 8-point lead, which was their largest of the day and win this set by a score of 25-17. They have played 9 sets this season against TCJ and won all 9. Additionally, through the 3 sets Navaeh Peery had 32 assists, tying her for 5th place in NCCAA Division II on the season. Csabai finished with a .391 attack percentage that lead the team, along with 11 kills, tying her with Rebeca Correa (who also had 11) for the team lead.

Jacksonville, Fl – The Eagles had just a 25-minute turnaround before the next game. Enough time drink some water or a sports drink, eat a banana and a protein bar, and hit some warmup shots before game 2 of the double header. Paine College was the next opponent, a team who has not yet won a game this season or even a set. The Lions came out with energy looking to not get blanked this season. The set was tied 5 different times and Paine even had the lead at 10-9. Following an 11-11 tie Isabela Acevedo began to serve and the Eagles went on a 7-0 run that included 3 service aces from Acevedo. The Lady Eagles extended the lead to 8 at one point but ended the set winning 25-18. In set 2 Paine won the 1st point but that was the last time they led in this set. The Eagles led by 5 points at 7-2 and then later by 10 points at 22-12. At the completion of the set, they won by 12 points (25-13). In set 3 Paine bounce back and led by a score of 4-1 and late 7-4. BUF responded and went up 13-11, from there they dominated, winning the last 12 points of the game, completing the sweep in dominating fashion winning 25-11. Across the 3 sets Acevedo had 8 aces putting her in solo second on the season long conference leaderboard and Rebeca Correa had 6 aces, tying her with Csabai from game 1 of the double header, and 4th on the leaderboard. Deliani Cruz led the team with 12 kills and an attack percentage of .375 which also lead the team.
