Box Score Thursday night February 12 was Neon Night in Eagles Gymnasium as BUF faced the 8th ranked Bob Jones Bruins. Bob Jones, a member of the South Region, is a team BUF will see again in less than a week's time in Greenville due to a rescheduled game from snow and ice a few weeks back in South Carolina.
Graceville, Fl – The Eagles started Solomon Sutton, Jordan Isaac, KJ Johnson, Joshua Good, and Omari Henry. To open the game Johnson blocked a shot put up by the Bruins and on the other end hit a 3-pointer off a Good assist for the early BUF 3-0 lead. Omari Henry was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all 3 free throws for the 6-0 lead. Bob Jones scored to make it 6-2, but Henry passed to Isaac who drove to the cup to make it 8-2. Isaac then stole the ball and kicked it to Good for 3 to make it 11-2 and force a timeout 2 minutes into the game.

Out of the timeout BUF contested a shot that was missed, and on the other end Sutton secured an offensive rebound and put it back to take an 11-point lead. BJU fought back and closed it to 6 points at 14-8, but Henry passed to Johnson who pump faked a 3, got the defender to bite, took one dribble, and drained a jump shot. The Bruins hit a 3, but Isaac drove to the basket and finished while getting fouled. He went to the line and buried the free throw for a 19-11 lead with 14:17 left.
Â
Bob Jones battled back to get it to a 4-point game, but Oliver Pratt dribbled inside the 3-point line and kicked it to an open Henry for 3 to go back up 7 points (22-15) with 13 minutes remaining in the half. The Bruins would not go away though, going on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 22. Isaac drew a charge and flipped possession to BUF. Henry passed to Johnson, who created separation with one dribble and knocked down a 3 to go up 3 with 10:35 left (25-22).
Bob Jones followed this with a 6-0 run, but it was answered by a Jordan Isaac jump shot assisted by Good. The Eagles were down 1 at 27-28 with 8 and a half minutes left in the 1st half. Isaac would score the next BUF basket assisted by Henry, and the following one assisted by Good for 6 consecutive BUF points to take a 1-point lead with 6:15 left (31-30). The teams were battling and this was shaping up to be a good one in Graceville. Johnson scored with 5:30 left to go up 33-32.
Â
The Bruins closed the half on a 19-5 run to take a 51-38 lead at halftime.
BUF had proven they could play with this team, but some costly mistakes led to a forgettable last 5 minutes. The Eagles came out of the locker room determined to right the ship, and that they did. On the first play Henry assisted to a cutting Good to make it 51-40, and then Henry stole the ball leading to a fast break layup. Henry then assisted to Johnson for 3 and BUF had it back to a 6-point margin. The Eagles scored 7 pints unanswered in less than a minute.
The run was not done yet as Isaac drew another charge and on the offensive end he passed to Sutton, who drove in for the layup making it a 9-0 run. BJU called a timeout and out of it scored their first basket of the half over 2 minutes in. Back down the floor Sutton was doing work in the paint, grabbing 2 offensive rebounds and getting fouled. He went to the line where he hit both to put the Eagles down just 2 at 51-53.
BJU extended the lead to 6, but Johnson responded with a jumper to cut it back to 4. Earlier in the game Johnson was fouled and hit the floor hard. He was not out long, fighting through injury to give the Eagles a lift and playing his best offensive game of the season. Moments later Sutton missed a shot but got his own rebound and put it back in to go down 2 at 55-57 with 15:12 left in the game.
BJU hit a 3, but Henry responded with a jump shot and it was a 3-point game. The Eagles had gone down double digits earlier, but they were not going away. This was going to be a competitive finish. Isaac passed to Sutton and now it was a 1-point game with 14 minutes left.
Â
Down 61-64 Henry got the ball at the top of the 3-point line and drove to the basket shooting a floater. He got raked across the arm for a foul, but not before getting the shot off and making it. At the free throw line, he hit his shot and it was a tie game 64-64 with 12:19 left. A few plays later with the same score Pratt grabbed a rebound and threw it ahead to Isaac who was fouled hard and sent to the line, where he hit both to go up 2 points with 11:20 left.
BJU tied it back up, but Henry got an offensive rebound and tip in to go back up 2. The Bruins would not back down as they hit a 3, 2 jumpers, and a free throw for a quick 8-0 run and a 6-point lead. Henry found Johnson in the corner to bring it back to a 3-point margin. Later Johnson hit a jumper to go down 2, and Henry hit a corner 3 to take a 1-point lead with 8 minutes left (76-75).
Â
BJU would make another run, this time 7-0, taking a 6-point lead. With 4:45 on the clock Johnson kicked out to Isaac for 3 and he swished it to go down 3. For Isaac, this made 3 put him over 400 points for his freshman season. This historic achievement made Isaac the 1st in BUF Basketball history to hit this mark. With 3:35 left on a 2 handed over-the-hip spin pass from Good to Henry, the lead was cut to 1 (85-86). Then again with 2:28 left Henry scored to cut it to 1.
Â
Â
In the end the upset would fall short at 91-96, but not without tremendous efforts from the Eagles.
91 points tied the most this year that an opposing team has scored against Bob Jones. BUF won the 2nd half 53-46. Four BUF starters combined for 86 points. Omari Henry ended with 28 points, 7Â assists, and 7 rebounds. Jordan Isaac had 22 points and 11 rebounds. KJ Johnson had 22 points in his season high. Solomon Sutton had 14 points and 9 rebounds.
