Box Score 4 BUF Softball Opens Season in Jacksonville
Jacksonville, FL – BUF opened the season with two doubleheaders against Edward Waters University, a member of the SAIC. Edward Waters won its division in 2023 and 2025 and captured the overall HBCU National Championship at its level in both 2022 and 2023. BUF opened the season against a strong opponent.
Game 1
The Eagles batted first but were unable to score.
Harley Daniels took the mound for BUF and worked out of the first inning, allowing only a single. In the second inning, Edward Waters struck first to take a 1–0 lead, but the Lady Eagles responded in the third.
Leading off the inning was
Maya Griffin, batting seventh in the lineup. She took a low pitch for ball one before lining the next pitch into right field for a double.
Kayden Bailey followed with a line-drive single to the outfield, advancing Griffin to third. With runners on first and third and no outs,
Sarah Priester hit a hard ground ball that allowed Griffin to slide home feet first, tying the game at 1–1. Bailey advanced to second on the play, and
Olivia Spooner later moved her to third, but the Eagles were unable to bring her home, sending the game to the bottom of the third tied.
Edward Waters scored three runs in the third and fourth innings. In the top of the fifth, Griffin came to the plate and hit a line drive single to center field, moving to 2-for-2 on the day. Coach Albury inserted
Jacey Nelson to run, a move that paid off. Bailey hit a ground ball into center field for a double, and Nelson raced around the bases to score standing up, cutting the deficit to 4–2. BUF was unable to add more runs, and Edward Waters pulled away, winning 10–2 by run rule in the sixth inning with another game still to be played.

Game 2
Edward Waters carried its momentum into the second game, jumping out to a 4–0 lead entering the third inning. With one out,
Lacey Goddin drew a walk.
Olivia Spooner followed with a fly ball to left field for a double, allowing Goddin to score and making it 4–1.
Maya Griffin then singled to left field, Goddin rounded third, and slid headfirst into home to cap a two-run inning for the Lady Eagles. That would be all the scoring for BUF, as Edward Waters answered with 8 unanswered runs to secure a 12–2 victory.

Game 3
Both teams were scoreless after one inning. In the top of the second, Daniels reached first base on an error leading off, and Nelson entered the game to run. Nelson stole second to move into scoring position and advanced to third on a passed ball.
Elizabeth Hancock followed with a sacrifice fly, allowing Nelson to score and giving the Eagles a 1–0 lead. BUF scored the run without recording a hit. In the third inning, Spooner collected a single, but it would be the Lady Eagles' only hit of the game as they fell 9–1.

Game 4
Spooner led off the game with a double for the Lady Eagles.
Maya Griffin drew a walk, and with runners on first and second and one out,
Janni Murray hit a pop fly to right field that fell in play and allowed Spooner to score. In the third inning, BUF found itself trailing 6–1. Spooner once again led off with a double, advanced to third on a ground ball, and scored on an error. Down 8–2 in the top of the fifth, Spooner hit her third double of the game and later scored on an RBI.
