Game 1
For the Eagles
Evan Wallace took the mound. He normally plays left field but today he was the starting pitcher. MACU was held scoreless through the 1st 2 innings, whereas BUF scored 2 runs in the 1st and 4 in the 2nd. Adam Gieger singled on a ground ball and then
Ivan Membreno hit a triple to right scoring Gieger. Bryn Calderon hit a sac fly to bring in Membreno and BUF led 2-0. In the 2nd Wallace struck out 2 and the last batter grounded out. For BUF
Cale Barnes walked and then moved to 2nd and 3rd on passed balls.
Quincy McFadden walked and then
Taivyn Anderson came to the plate with 2 on and 1 out. He hit a sacrifice bunt that brought in Barnes to make it 3-0.
Xavier Taylor was up with a runner in scoring position. He hit a ground ball for a single, but the throw was wide and the throw back across the field happened without tagging Taylor. He took advantage of this and sped across the bases to score, making it 5-0. Geiger reached 1st beating out a ground ball and was followed by Membreno who hit one to left scoring Geiger making it 6-0. In the 3rd MACU scored 3, 2 in the top of the 4th, and 2 in the 5th but the Eagles fought back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th and 3 in the 5th. In the 4th Taylor and Gieger scored.
Cale Barnes led off the 5th inning with a home run on a deep shot to left field! Barnes, with this hit, extended his hit streak to 6.
Korbin Odom and Taylor also scored in the inning. To close it out
Hayden Wright did not allow a hit in the final inning and struck out the final 2 batters, the last on 3 piches, giving BUF an 11-8 win.
Game 2
Quienton Renfroe, who often plays 1st base, was the Eagles starting pitcher. In the 2nd inning
Bryan Calderon led off with a single, then
Connor Ward singled, and
Zane Alford hit a long fly to right to score Calderon. In the 5
th, down 1-2 with 2 outs,
Evan Wallace, who had pitched the previous game, singled on a hit to center, followed by a
Torin Clark-Hussey walk. Taylor came in to run for Wallace, and he scored following a single from Membreno making it 2-2. In the 6th inning the Eagles scored 4 runs. Ward hit a double to lead off the inning and
Tucker Nix walked.
Eli Albury came up to bat with 2 on and 1 out in a tie game. On the 8th pitch of his at bat, he hit one hard, line drive to left field scoring both Ward and Nix to take a 2-run lead.
Cooper Watkins came in to run for Albury. Anderson hit a single and moved Watkins to 3rd. Odom came in to run for Anderson and Wallace walked to load the bases. On a passed ball, Watkins ran home and scored. Clark-Hussey was walked to re-load the bases and then on a Membreno walk Odom scored to go up 6-2. Wright came in to close as he did in Game 1 and again struck out the final batter on 3 pitches. This would be the final as the Eagles swept the day, winning the 2 games.
Game 3
In the 6th inning the Eagles found themselves in a hole, down 0-2. Only having 2 hits in the game, a double by
Quincy McFadden and a single by Renfroe, who was playing 1st base after having pitched the previous game. In the bottom of the 6th Anderson led off and was walked, next was Giger and he was hit by a pitch. McFadden came up with 2 on, no outs, and the Eagles best chance of the day. McFadden delivered as he hit a hard ground ball for a single and RBI scoring Anderson. Alford walked to load the bases and Nix was walked scoring McFadden (who was 2-3 on the day with 1 RBI and 1 run). Calderon then scored on a passed ball to give the Eagles a 4-run inning. To end the game
Hagan Smith, who was throwing a complete game, struck out the final 3 batters to win it for the Eagles and to win all 3 games! Smith only gave up 1 earned run and 5 hits, he had 9 strikeouts and 0 walks. The Eagles bats were not on in this game and he delivered with a great outing. He kept his team in the game to win it with a big inning.
Game 4
To lead off the bottom of the 1st for the Eagles Wallace reached 1st on an error and then Odom was walked. Membreno came up with 2 on and no outs and he hit a line drive to right scoring Wallace. Odom advanced to 3rd and then when the catcher threw to try and get Membreno, Odom stole home to score, giving BUF 2 runs in the 1st, but they were not done, as they would score 3 more. This was not like game 1 of the day, they gave their pitcher run support right from the start. Three batters in a row walked and now Calderon, Barnes, and Gieger had the bases loaded as Albury came to the plate. He was also walked for 4 in a row and Calderon jogged in for the score. Clark-Hussey came to the plate with a rattled pitcher and he hit a line drive to right that scored 2. A 5 run inning for the Eagles and a 5-2 lead. The teams played innings 2 through 5 scoreless but in the 6th the Eagles would put 2 more on the board. Wallace reached 1st on a fielder's choice and then stole 2nd base. Odom singled on a line drive to left scoring Wallace. Membreno then doubled to left and brought in Odom for the score. Wright came in to close it out as he did the 2 yesterday and on the final play Grace hit a chopper to Calderon who flipped it to Clark-Hussey who caught it barehanded for the out and then turned to first whipping it to Albury, turning 2 and ending the game on a double play; four Eagles wins in a row!
