BUF Volleyball Caps off Difficult Week with a Win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3
Cuthbert, GA – Tuesday, October 7 BUF played at Andrew College in Georgia. Set-1 began competitive, the teams were tied at 1, 2, 3, and 4 but following this Andrew College went ahead and the set was not tied again till at 15-15. Towards the beginning, this set appeared bleak, but the Eagles were able to swing the set and win 25-19. In set-2, the Eagles were unable to swing momentum; BUF went down 1-7 early and Andrew College did not look back. The lead swelled to double digits and despite a late push, the Eagles dropped set-2 17-25 without ever leading. In set-3, BUF led by a score of 6-5, but this was followed by a 12-4 Andrew run, and BUF lost 15-25. Now down 1 set to 2, BUF had to win set-4 to extend the game. Down 8-11, Coach Thais Franca called timeout, and her team responded flipping the set.

The Eagles tied it at 16-16 forcing Andrew College to use a timeout, but out of this, the Lady Eagles won the next 3 points going up 19-16. This was a tough game on the road for BUF. The Eagles had to deal with the elements of a slippery road floor, a gym without air conditioning, and poorly behaved fans. BUF won set-4 25-20, the finishing touches were placed by an Isabela Acevedo kill from an assist by Nevaeh Peery. In set-5, it was tied at 1 and 3 but Andrew was able to go up 3 making it 4-7. The points are more critical in a 5-set match. Getting the lead back after going down 3 is difficult. Despite getting the score back to just 1 at two different points the Eagles lost the set 12-15. Acevedo finished with both 13 kills and 13 digs, with a team high hitting percentage of .276. Peery finished the 5-set match with 47 assists, now putting her in 2nd for the individual lead this season in NCCAA division II for 5-sets (1st place being her with 59 vs Coastal Alabama). The Eagles are now 0-3 on the season when it goes to 5-sets.

Graceville, FL - On Thursday, October 9 the BUF Eagles faced the PCC Eagles in Graceville. This would now be game 3 of the regular season amongst these two teams, having played in Pensacola, Greenville, and now in Graceville. In set-1, the teams were tied 9-9. PCC responded by going up 17-12, to which the Eagles pushed back making it 17-19 and then 21-22. A set of runs continued though, and PCC won the set 25-22. Having not led in set-1, BUF was determined to finally win a set against this team, and they jumped out to a 7-4 advantage. However, this flipped quickly as PCC was back leading 9-8 and did not trail again, winning this set 25-18. In set number 3, BUF led at 6-3 and 12-8 but was unable to stay in front as it was tied 20-20. Closing against this team continued to be a problem, as BUF lost 22-25. PCC has now won 9 of the 9 sets vs BUF. Despite the loss, Szonja Csabai ended with an impressive kill percentage of .500 across the 3-set match.
