Box Score 2 Jacksonville, Fl – Tuesday, November 11 BUF played a regional contest on the road against Trinity College of Jacksonville, a team we will see 2 times during the regular season and could see again in February at the regional tournament. To begin the game, BUF started cold, down 0-6 and 2-9. These 6 and 7-point deficits would play a significant role in the conclusion of the game. BUF made a run sparked by
Jordan Isaac draining a 3 and hitting 2 free throws to tie it 9-9. TCJ responded to the BUF 7-0 run with a 15-3 run of their own. BUF went down 12 at 12-24 and then with under 3 minutes left in the 1
st half down 14 at 33-47. Before half BUF would go on another 7-0 run, capped by an
Omari Henry 3 to beat the buzzer making the halftime score 40-47.
In the 2
nd half the Eagles again sputtered out of the gate going down 19 points at 47-66, by TCJ capping a 21-7 run to begin the 2
nd half. BUF would come charging back and after a reverse layup by
Jo'el King, assisted by
CJ McKinley, the deficit was cut to 3 points. King made his season debut for the Eagles, and his impact made a difference. He finished with 23 points. His ability to work in the paint has been missed by the Eagles.
David Pina was another to make his debut with 12 boards, one of which came at 74-79. Pina threw to McKinney who then passed to a driving King. Pina finished with 8 points. King and Pina on the interior will help the Eagles moving forward. The Eagles refused to quit but played from behind the entire game in a 90-94 final. BUF will meet TCJ again in the final game of the regular season in Graceville.
Sarasota, Fl - On Friday, November 14 the Eagles traveled to play New College of Florida. King and Pina were inserted into the starting lineup with McKinley,
Oliver Pratt, and
Jordan Isaac. From the opening tip Isaac was showing signs of having a big game. Pena took the jump ball and tipped it to King who passed it to a driving Isaac who was fouled and went to the line knocking down both free throws. The Eagles were not going to allow a deficit to balloon like in the last game and it showed. NCF had the ball leading 25-18 and could have pushed the lead to 10 with a 3 but Isaac got a block that King grabbed. King passed to McKinley, Isaac ran the floor, and McKinley threw him a pass for the assist as he drove the lane and scored. Down 33-43, King would grab a rebound and with a put back cut it to 8 points. On the other end King blocked a shot that Pratt rebounded and took up the floor, passed to a driving Isaac who scored and was fouled, completing the 3-point play. King would score again, and the Eagles would take what was a 10-point deficit and turn it into a 7-0 run, forcing NCF to call a timeout.
NCF led 44-41 at the half. New College pushed the advantage to 12. BUF answered,
Thomas Curlee saw a cutting King and assisted him for a basket cutting it to 10. Later
Omari Henry passed to Isaac who ran to get open and then buried a 3-pointer cutting lead down to 3. While NCF brought the ball up the floor, Henry tipped the pass and dove on the floor to secure the steal as he was fouled. Following a Curlee steal, fast break, and drive to the basket, the score was tied 63-63 with 11:17 to go. Down 72-75 with 7:10 remaining McKinley would skip pass it over to the hot handed Isaac who hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 75. Down 2-points at 82-84 Pina would drive and kick to Henry for the open jump shot. The swish tied it 84-84 with 3 minutes left.
NCF ended on a 7-0 run to win 91-84 stopping the BUF push. Isaac finished with 35 points which is at this point in the season is 7th on the NCCAA Division II individual game highs. King ended with 14-13 as the teams second leading scorer and the games leading rebounder. His 13 rebounds are tied for 8th currently on the same leaderboard. Next up for the Eagles is a matchup on the road against Trinty College of Florida.
